CMU Lacrosse Slips Past Mercer in Conference Opener

MT. PLEASANT – Anna Schoonover and Jocelyne Lemay scored four goals apiece and the Central Michigan women’s lacrosse program recorded its first-ever Southern Conference win with a 15-13 decision over Mercer (Ga.) on Thursday.

The Chippewas (5-4, 1-0) opened Thursday’s contest with a 7-3 lead midway through the first half as Schoonover tallied a three goals in the first 14 minutes of play. CMU held a 10-7 lead at the half.

Natalie Karlen scored three goals for CMU, while Tyra Prince tallied a pair. Emma Hamilton and Jessica Schuchardt each added a goal apiece.

Dominique Hamman recorded 17 saves in net to earn the win.

Katie Leone paced Mercer (3-6, 0-1) with five goals.

CMU hosts former Atlantic Sun foe Kennesaw State (Ga.) at 1 p.m. Saturday.
