CMU Softball Sweeps Miami in MAC Doubleheader

MT. PLEASANT – The Central Michigan softball program recorded its first two Mid-American Conference wins of the season with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Miami (Ohio) on Friday.

The Chippewas (12-15, 2-3) held on for a 3-2 win in the opener and put four runs across the plate in the third inning of the nightcap en route to a 5-0 victory.

Tied at 1-1 through 3 1/2 innings in the opener, Kayla Noch broke up the tie with an RBI single up the middle, scoring Maison Kalina. Allison Curtis then delivered an RBI single, scoring Andrea Perlberg to put CMU ahead 3-1 after four.

The RedHawks would get a run back in the seventh on a solo home run.

Junior Laura Vaccaro earned the win in the circle, allowing one earned run on three hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. Taylor Weaver pitched the final 2 1/3 innings in relief, giving up just the one run on two hits while striking out a pair.

Noch went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored, while Erika Underwood was 2-for-3.

Scoreless through 2 1/2 innings in the nightcap, the Chippewas plated four runs in the bottom of the third and added on an insurance run in the fifth.

Freshman Shaidan Knapp was 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.

Senior Hanna Warren allowed just two hits and registered six strikeouts and three walks in a complete-game effort.

CMU closes out its weekend series against Miami (13-14, 2-3) with a single game at 1 p.m. Saturday.
