CMU Women to Face LSU in NCAA Tournament
MT. PLEASANT – The Central Michigan women’s basketball team will make its first appearance in the NCAA Division Women’s Basketball Tournament since 2013 on Saturday as the 11-seed in the Spokane Region.
CMU (28-4) will face six-seed LSU (19-9) in a first-round matchup at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ohio State. The winner will take on either three-seed Ohio State or 14th-seed George Washington in the second round.
This marks the first meeting between CMU and LSU. The Tigers have won four of their last six games, but fell to No. 24 Texas A & M (75-69) in an SEC tournament quarterfinal on March 2. LSU has made 26 NCAA Division 1 Tournament appearances and reached the Final Four in five consecutive seasons (2004-2008).
Saturday’s game will mark CMU’s fourth appearance in the NCAA Division 1 Tournament and second under coach Sue Guevara.
The Chippewas, who set a program record with their 28th win last weekend, won their first Mid-American Conference tournament championship since 2013 this past Saturday with a 96-91 victory over Buffalo. Buffalo (27-5) received an at-large bid as the 11-seed in the Albany Region. The Bulls will South Florida (26-7) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
