CMU’s Moore, Guevara Honored by MAC

MT. PLEASANT – Central Michigan senior forward Tinara Moore has been named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year.

Moore also repeated as the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and is the first repeat winner of the the award since Toledo’s Andola Dortch in 2013. Moore was also named to the All-MAC First Team and All-MAC Defensive Team for the third consecutive year.

Coach Sue Guevara was also named MAC Coach of the Year, and freshman guard Micaela Kelley was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team. Junior guard Presley Hudson earned All-MAC First Team honors and finished second to Moore in the Player of the Year award vote.

Junior forward Reyna Frost was also named to the All-MAC Second Team.

Moore currently ranks fourth in the MAC in scoring with 19.2 points per game and second in rebounds per game (9.6). She is also averaging a MAC-best 2.3 blocks per game and set a program record with 68 on the year.

Now in her 11th year at CMU, Guevara has posted a 201-145 record, with the team’s 25 wins this season two shy of tying a program record of 27 (1983-84). Under Guevara’s charge, the Chippewas have won three consecutive MAC West titles and two straight MAC regular season championships.

CMU opens MAC tournament play with a quarterfinal game against Eastern Michigan on Wednesday at Cleveland’s Quicken Loans Arena. Tipoff is set for noon.
