Ferris State Tops West Texas A&M, Heads to National Title Game

SIOUX FALLS, South Dakota – Drew Cushingberry scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and the Ferris State men’s basketball team punched its ticket to the NCAA Division II national championship game with an 85-79 win over four-seed West Texas A&M on Thursday.

Appearing in its first national semifinal, top-seed Ferris State (37-1) took a 41-35 lead at the half.

Charlevoix native Zach Hankins recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, while Peter Firlik and Noah King chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

David Chavlovich led all scorers with 33 for West Texas A&M (32-4).

Ferris State will now face either Queens or Northern State for the national title at 3 p.m. Saturday.
