Ferris State’s Bronkema Named NABC Coach of the Year

BIG RAPIDS – McBain native and Ferris State men’s basketball coach Andy Bronkema has been named the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division II Coach of the Year.

Bronkema recently led Ferris State to the school’s first NCAA Division II national championship and a 38-1 record, tying Winona State (Minn.) for most wins in a single season.

Under Bronkema this winter, Ferris State won its second straight Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title, fourth consecutive GLIAC tournament championship and an NCAA Division II Midwest Region title.

In five seasons as head coach of the Bulldogs, Bronkema has a 123-41 overall record.

In addition to NABC National Coach of the Year honors, Bronkema was also named Basketball Times National Coach of the Year, GLIAC Conference Coach of the Year and NABC Midwest Region Coach of Year.
