TC West Falls to Saginaw Heritage in State Semifinals

PLYMOUTH – A historic season for the Traverse City West hockey program came to an end Friday with a 3-2 overtime loss to No. 7 Saginaw Heritage in a Division 1 state semifinal at Plymouth’s USA Hockey Arena.

The Titans (17-10-3) were making their second semifinal appearance and first since 2010.

Matte Cole scored the game-winner 59 seconds into the overtime period.

Goals from Eddie Symons and David Helpap put the Hawks (22-4-3) ahead 2-0 after the first period.

West responded in the second with goals from Evan Wilson and Mark Alekseykov.

Heritage outshot West 35-23, including 11-7 in the opening period and 5-3 in overtime.

Senior Elliott Sitkins recorded 32 saves in net for West, which graduates 11 seniors.

Heritage advances to Saturday’s championship game. The puck drops at 6 p.m.
