TC West Names Vaughan Head Coach
TRAVERSE CITY – Former Traverse City St. Francis head football coach Greg Vaughan was named Traverse City West’s new head coach on Monday.
Vaughan replaces former coach Tim Wooer, who announced his resignation in January after 10 seasons at West. Wooer accepted the coaching position at Kingsley, where he previously coached from 1999-2007.
“What I’ve always seen is that we definitely have kids here who will work hard, and can be successful, and big time players,” Vaughan said. “You know, you look at the jerseys in the hallway, and those kids have done amazing things. So, that’s one of the things, do you have good kids that you can build with? And we certainly do. We’re just excited to get going. Now we’ve got a week and a half, and we’ve got spring break, and we’ll really get going after we get back from spring break.”
Vaughan is no stranger to the West program, having served as the offensive line and special teams coach.
A 1995 St. Francis graduate, Vaughan took over the Gladiator program in 2008 and led St. Francis to consecutive MHSAA Division 7 state championships in his first two years. He went 63-19 in seven seasons at St. Francis and was not brought back following the 2014 season.
Vaughan inherits a program that went 9-2 in 2017 and won a Big North Conference championship.
