TC West Preps Holland for West Ottawa

TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City West hockey program is back in the Division 1 state quarterfinals for the third time in program history.

The Titans (16-9-3) claimed their third regional championship and first since 2015 with a 6-3 win over Rockford last Saturday.

West will face Holland West Ottawa at Ferris State on Wednesday. The winner will take on either Saginaw Heritage or Macomb Dakota in a state semifinal Friday in Plymouth.

“It was awesome,” West coach  Jeremy Rintala said. “We’ve only won three in our history and last year, we played in this game and Rockford beat us. So our guys were hungry and I’m just glad that they performed well. We have not seen West Ottawa but I know that they’re very good as well. There’s not going to be, you know, you’re going to have your hands full no matter who it is in the tournament. There’s only eight teams left, so we’re very happy to be one of those eight.”

West earned a pair of 5-4 overtime wins over Muskegon Reeths-Puffer and the Bay Reps en route to the regional final. A win Wednesday would give the Titans their second semifinal berth and first since reaching the 2010 semifinals.

West Ottawa (20-7-1) is making its first quarterfinal appearance in program history after posting wins over Byron Center (3-2 OT), Hudsonville (4-1) and Grandville (2-1 OT).

The puck drops Wednesday at 7 p.m.
