Ferroni Steps Down at Sault Ste. Marie

SAULT STE. MARIE – After seven seasons as head coach of Sault Ste. Marie’s hockey program, John Ferroni is stepping down from his position.

Ferroni met with the team and coaching staff Tuesday on his decision to step away.

Hired in 2011, Ferroni led the Blue Devils to consecutive MHSAA Division 3 state runner-up finishes in 2013 and 2014, with losses coming to Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook-Kingswood and Farmington, respectively.

Sault Ste. Marie reached the state finals twice under Ferroni, winning four regional championships.

“The saddest moment in my career was the year Marcus Andary died. My very first year,” Ferroni said. “The special time was having the first girl to ever play hockey here… Abby Roque. Another special moment was having Zach Ellis walk into our locker room and enhance our lives.”

The Blue Devils went 20-7-1 in 2017-18.

Ferroni was 132-57-9 in seven seasons.
