Veteran Rotation to Lead Sault Ste. Marie in 2018

SAULT STE. MARIE – The Sault Ste. Marie baseball program took another step in the right direction in coach Shane Thompson’s third season a year ago by winning Division 2 district and regional championships.

The Blue Devils look to continue that success as the 16th-ranked team in the latest Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association state poll returns all of its pitching staff, including six starters from a roster a that picked up postseason wins over Petoskey (1-0), Cheboygan (11-0), Whitehall (2-0) and Sparta (14-3) before falling to Bay City John Glenn (11-1) in a quarterfinal.

“There’s been six kids that have been involved with Ted Coneset and me from the very beginning and this is now their senior year,” Thompson said. “There’s a real trust level there that, you know, we know what they’re capable of doing and what they can do in big games. So we’re looking forward to this season and seeing what they can do.”

Thompson feels a strong sense of comfortability with his players and what they can do on the diamond.

Sault Ste. Marie is scheduled to host Division 4 15th-ranked Rudyard on Monday.
