Clare Boys Track And Field Hoping To Win Title Two Years Straight

CLARE – Last year, the Clare Boys Track and Field team won their first MITCA state title in almost 20 years.

Now, coming off a regional win over the weekend, they’re ready to get back to team states and take the title again.

“We come in knowing we won last year so we’re the targets for everyone to beat. It’s good pressure for us to actually win it this year, we work hard because we want to win it again,” said senior Xavier Martin.

The team definitely understands the expectations they have this season.

“We like to reach for lofty goals, but we didn’t want to set ourselves up for failure too soon, and it’s difficult to hide a good team and we’re deep across all events, so everyone knows what’s coming and we know who’s coming,” added head coach Adam Burhans.

Coach Burhans and the rest of the team say they’re prepared for anything and are not underestimating any of their competition.

The MITCA D3 State Championship is May 26, at Clare High School.
