Beal City Ready for Gaylord St. Mary in Semis
MT. PLEASANT — Beal City returns to the Division 4 semifinals for the first time since 2014 after defeating Muskegon Catholic Central, 9-2, in the quarterfinals.
The Crusaders were the only team to score any runs against the Aggies so far this postseason, as they have outscored opponents 44-2. The win avenged last year’s loss against Muskegon C.C. in regionals.
“We’ve lost to them actually four times, football and baseball, and to beat them finally it’s awesome,” said Kollin Sharrar, who owns a .470 batting average along with 10 doubles this season. “I’ve known all these kids for many years. We never argue. We always have fun, so it’s awesome.”
Beal City now prepares for No. 4 Gaylord St. Mary, who will be making its third straight semifinal appearance. The Aggies last advanced this far in 2014, when they were the Div. 4 runner-up.
“It’s always good. The smiles on their faces is what’s good for me, you know, the kids coming together to do something as a team. It’s working. It’s being successful as a team. That’s what it’s all about. Having some fun in doing that,” Beal City baseball coach Steve Pickens said.
The Aggies will start the day off on Friday with a 9 a.m. first pitch against the Snowbirds in East Lansing.
