No. 2 Coleman Blanks No. 1 Rogers City, Punches Ticket to State Final

EAST LANSING – Senior Faith Barden tossed a three-hitter and the second-ranked Coleman softball program shut out top-ranked Rogers City in an MHSAA Division 4 state semifinal Friday at Michigan State.

Scoreless through 5 1/2 innings, Coleman’s Autumn Tubbs drove in Jaden Berthume and Mackenzie Miller on a two-run single with the bases loaded.

Winners of the 2005 Division 4 championship, Coleman (30-9) will make just its second appearance in a state final on Saturday.

Barden was dominant in the circle, allowing just three hits, including one after the third inning, while striking out 11 and walking two. She helped her cause at the plate by going 2-for-2.

Miller, Berthume, Makailyn Monson and Autumn Tubbs all tallied single hits in the win.

Kyrsten Altman was saddled with the loss after giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out one.

Altman, Kayla Rabeau and Hannah Fleming all had hits for the Hurons.

Rogers City was appearing in its first semifinal since winning the Division 4 title in 2014. The Hurons graduate five seniors and are set to return nine, including seven rising seniors.

Rogers City concludes its 2018 campaign at 32-6.

Coleman will face Centreville for the state title at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
