Sanford Meridian Ends Historic Season in D3 Semis

EAST LANSING – Sanford Meridian’s historic softball season came to an end Friday in an MHSAA Division 3 state semifinal at Michigan State.

Making its first semifinal appearance since 1997, the Mustangs dropped a 5-3 contest to top-ranked Millington.

The Mustangs trailed 2-0 through 1 1/2 innings and 5-1 after 6 1/2 innings.

Peyton Grice allowed five runs (four earned) on 12 hits while striking out one in seven innings of work. Grace helped her caused by going 3-for-4 at the plate. Mya Hall, Jenna Holzinger, Ally Sutton and Audrey Kielpinski all tallied single hits.


Gabby Sherman surrendered just one earned run on seven hits while fanning 11 for Millington (39-2).

Tayla Solano, Abby Person and Haley Maynard capped off their prep careers on Friday as 13 Mustangs return next season.

Sanford Meridian concludes its season at 27-15.
