Blazejewski Back In Northern Michigan

TRAVERSE CITY –  Professional basketball player Maria Blazejewski is back in her home state.

The Benzie Central and Lake Superior State alumna comes back to northern Michigan in her off season to help train athletes in the area.

“There’s things I know that I did in high school or I had coaches work with me on in high school and it really helped me. So I try to throw that stuff into the workouts, then I also try to take from my college and pro experience,” said Blazejewski.

She officiates, does individual and group sessions, does a strength conditioning clinic out of Elite Physical Therapy and Sports Performance, works with the Northern Pride Sports Academy, and this year, she does drop in sessions for girls. She teamed up with other local pros, Trevor Huffman and Ben Simons to do the sessions.

It gives her the opportunity to get in the community and stay involved, something she’s been doing for years.

“It’s great, I love working with her, she’s so fun to work with and you learn something new every time you’re with her. My game’s improved dramatically because of her so I owe her a lot because of that,” said Riley Gillow, a sophomore at Traverse City St. Francis.

“She’s made it so far and you look at her and you’re just like…. it’s pretty cool. It’s awesome that she’s here helping us cause she’s like a superstar,” added Kingsley senior, Marie Pierson.

Blazejewski most recently played in Puerto Rico and France, and is currently sorting out which team she will be joining next season.
