Abdelkader Returns to Training Camp at Centre Ice Arena

TRAVERSE CITY – The Detroit Red Wings continued training camp Monday at Centre Ice Arena.

This comes after releasing 10 players on Sunday.

Fans may have missed Justin Abdelkader over the weekend, but he had a good excuse to be absent.

Abdelkader and his wife, Julie, welcomed their first born, Jaxon Joseph Abdelkader, into the world Friday night.

“I’m just lucky I could be there for the birth and be there for the two days when Julie was in the hospital. Taking three days off isn’t terrible. If it would have been a couple more, I might have taken a few days to get back into it, but it’s nice I was able to get a couple skates in,” says Abdelkader, upon his return to camp Monday.

The Detroit Red Wings training camp goes through Tuesday, before the Wings open up preseason play hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesar’s Arena Wednesday.
