Big Rapids Eyes Fourth Straight Finals Trip

BIG RAPIDS – With Lower Peninsula girls golf regionals beginning Wednesday, Big Rapids is in the midst of a historic season.

Ranked fourth in the latest Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association Division 3 state poll, the Cardinals broke the school’s team scoring record this year and nearly broke it again when they won their conference championship. Big Rapids also won the Lady Tullymore Invitational for the first time this fall.

After placing 12th at last year’s MHSAA Division 3 state finals, the Cardinals are eyeing a fourth straight finals trip.

“We’ve been challenging them,” Big Rapids coach Mark Posey said. “You’ve got to find a way to win. If your goal is to win a regional and compete at the state championship level, you’ve got to find a way in this tournament to win. They did that at conference and they also then continued to do that at Lady Tullymore.”

Big Rapids will compete in an 11-team regional hosted by Fremont at the Stonegate Golf Club on Thursday.
