Kalkaska’s Josh Bigby Resigns as Head Coach

JV Coach Kyle Smith Names Interim Coach

KALKASKA – Kalkaska varsity football head coach Josh Bigby has resigned, the school confirmed Tuesday evening.

Bigby, who was in his first year at Kalkaska, resigned on Saturday, Sept. 29. He resigned to focus on his teaching duties as an English teacher at Kalkaska High School.

Varsity wide receivers coach and JV head coach Kyle Smith has taken over the program on an interim basis.

The Blazers had struggled in Bigby’s first campaign, having been outscored 273-30 and entering Week 7 with a 0-6 record.

A former assistant coach at Mt. Pleasant and Clare high schools, Bigby returned to Michigan this year after serving as an assistant acoach at Class 6-A Bartlesville, Oklahoma the last three years.

Bigby was hired to replace Jeremy Wilkinson, who stepped down at the conclusion of the 2017 season after compiling a 40-44 record over nine seasons.

Kalkaska Public Schools will be posting the varsity position in November.

MISportsNow was unable to reach Bigby for comment.
