Shepherd Picking Up Where it Left After Magical 2017

SHEPHERD – After a magical 2017, the Shepherd girls golf team has picked up right where it left off.

The fourth-year program won its second straight Tri-Valley Conference title a year ago and its first regional championship before taking home a sixth-place finish at the MHSAA Division 4 state finals.

Ranked 10th in the latest Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association Division 4 state poll, Shepherd has found immediate success thanks to the senior class that has been with the program since its infancy.

“My seniors are the grassroots. They were the beginnings of this program, and that’s very special,” Shepherd coach Julie Prout said. “I think that they’re playing well, and at the end of the day, that’s all I can expect from them. And if they come out ahead, that’s awesome, and if not, I know they played their hardest.”

Shepherd will compete in an 11-team Division 4 regional hosted by Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart at the Mt. Pleasant County Club on Friday.
