TC West in Third After Day 1, Harbor Springs in Second

BATTLE CREEK – Defending state champion Traverse City West sits in third place after the first day of the MHSAA Division 1 girls golf state finals at Battle Creek’s Bedford Valley.

The Titans carded a 331 on Friday and are 13 strokes behind leader Northville and two strokes behind Plymouth.

West senior Anika Dy is the overall leader after shooting a 68. Dy is the two-time defending event champion.

Saturday’s final day of competition tees off at 9 a.m.

At the Division 2 final at Michigan State’s Forest Akers West, Petoskey sits in 10th place with a 389 while fellow Big North Conference member Traverse City Central is in 11th with a 392.

Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern leads the event with a 332.

Big Rapids finds itself in fifth place at the Division 3 meet at Michigan State’s Forest Akers East.

The Cardinals fired a 363 and are 35 strokes behind leader Flint Powers.

Reigning Division 4 champion Harbor Springs is three strokes behind leader Kalamazoo Hackett at the Division 4 final at Grand Valley State’s The Meadows.

Shepherd is 10 strokes behind in third place while Traverse City St. Francis (425) is tied for 11th with Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard and Cheboygan (438) sits in 17th.

Shepherd’s Morgan Yates is tied for third place overall after shooting an 82 on Friday.
