Manistee’s Vander Weele Signs With Cornerstone

MANISTEE – Another local high school athlete will be taking their talents to the next level.

Manistee’s Erin Vander Weele signed her letter of intent to play softball at Cornerstone University.

“Well I visited Calvin and Hope and I don’t know, I also visited Cornerstone and I did an overnight stay and everybody stood out and it was just a great huge community and everyone was welcoming,” said Vander Weele. “They were all so nice and it just kind of felt like home. A huge weight is lifted off my shoulders,” she added.

She hopes to pursue a major in the medical field, but she is undecided of which exact route she’ll take.

Vander Weele has one more season left with the Chippewas, with her dad as her head coach.

She plays shortstop for Manistee and this last year recorded at .481 batting average.

The Chippewas open their season on April 11, 2019 at home against Cadillac.
