Northern Michigan Athlete Spotlight: Sacred Heart’s Scout Nelson

MISportsNow’s Northern Michigan Athlete Spotlight is highlighting some of the region’s most talented high school student-athletes. This is the first in the series.

MT. PLEASANT – Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart senior Scout Nelson is keeping busy as one of the area’s most talented female multi-sport athletes.

A 2018 Associated Press Girls Basketball Class D First Team all-stater, Nelson, a four-year varsity member and recent Davenport University commit, has led the Irish to three consecutive MHSAA Class D state semifinal appearances and a 2016 Class D state runner-up finish as a freshman. The Irish have gone 74-5 in that three-year stretch.

Competing on the cross country course, Nelson and Sacred Heart have won four straight MHSAA Division 4 state championships, with Nelson recording top-10 finishes in three of her four years, including a second-place finish as a junior in 2017.

As a track athlete, Nelson has competed at the MHSAA Division 4 state finals each of the previous three years and led Sacred Heart to consecutive top-eight team finishes.
