TC West Hosts Annual Thanksgiving Tournament
TRAVERSE CITY – With the high school hockey season just underway in northern Michigan, the two oldest programs in Traverse City drop the puck on their respective seasons on Friday.
A Division 1 state semifinalist a year ago and ranked 10th in the first Division 1 poll of 2018, Traverse City West hosts its annual Thanksgiving weekend tournament this Friday and Saturday.
The two-day tournament features Division 3 fifth-ranked Warren De La Salle, Farmington and West’s rival Traverse City Central.
“Coach (Chris) Givens and I would both agree that we’d rather play the best teams in the state, all season long,” West coach Jeremy Rintala said. “Everyone gets in the playoffs, so you might as well play a tough schedule, and then not be surprised when you get in the playoffs. So, we’re going to have our hands full, both nights, Friday and Saturday for sure. It’ll be some good hockey for us and Traverse City Central.”
West drops the puck against De La Salle Friday at 8:30 p.m., while Central takes on Farmington at 6 p.m.
