Young Sacred Heart Squad Readies for Season Opener

MT. PLEASANT – After reaching the Class D girls basketball state semifinals each of the last three years, Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart tips off the 2018-19 season with a young squad.

The Irish must replace five seniors that led Sacred Heart to a 94-10 record and a Class D state runner-up finish over four years.

“We are a pretty young team,” Sacred Heart senior Scout Nelson said. “We have three freshmen up, so we’re just trying to get them into the speed of things. I mean we still expect to have big goals even though we’re definitely rebuilding this year. We lost five seniors. We’re just going to take it a game at a time and work on improving each game.”

Sacred Heart opens its season at home against Morley Stanwood on Tuesday. The Irish won last year’s meeting 45-18.
