Bay Reps Blank Traverse City Central in Annual Veterans’ Cup

TRAVERSE CITY – For the sixth year in a row, the Bay Reps and the Traverse City Central hockey teams faced off in the annual Veterans’ Cup at Centre Ice Arena.

Today, the two teams set their rivalry aside and hit the ice in the fundraiser to raise money for the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight and the Grand Traverse Area Veterans Coalition.

“It’s huge. We raise about half of what it costs for one flight. In a one day fundraiser, we can cover just about half of one of our flights. Regardless of the score, the veterans win,” said president of the Mid-Michigan Honor Flight, Robert Green.

The Bay Reps did go home with the win Saturday, defeating the Trojans 4-0.

But before the showdown, those who served our country were honored by the community.

“It really is something, I’ll tell you. I didn’t expect anything like this. I had no idea it was going to be this spectacular,” said World War II Navy Veteran Larry Lampton.

Next up for the Bay Reps is Petoskey on Monday, while Traverse City Central will face off against Gaylord on January 30.
