Coaches’ Profile: Mason County Central’s Tim Genson

SCOTTVILLE – Mason County Central boys basketball coach Tim Genson recently recorded his 300th career win in a 47-43 victory over Bear Lake back on Jan. 14.

During his first stint from 1993-2009, the Spartans won five district and conference championships, a pair of regional titles and posted a 243-114 record over 16 seasons. Genson also led Mason County Central to the 1997 MHSAA Class C state semifinals, where it fell to eventual state champion Redford Bishop Borgess, and the 1998 Class C state title game. The 1998 squad went 26-1 and lost to Detroit St. Martin de Porres 58-46.

The school’s athletic director, Genson returned to the bench for the 2015-16 season and has won Class C district championships each of the last two years.
