DeWald Takes I-500 Pole, Wins Woody’s Challenge

SAULT STE. MARIE – After four rounds of qualifying, Troy DeWald secured the pole position for Saturday’s running of the 51st International 500 snowmobile race.

Piloting the Cadarette Collision Racing/Arctic Cat machine, DeWald posted a best time of 39.648 with a speed of 90.799 miles per hour. Seven-time I-500 champion Gabe Bunke will start alongside DeWald after posting a best time of 39.896 at 90.235 mph.

Luke Krentz, Zach Herfindahl and Ryan Faust rounded out the top five.

The night was capped off with DeWald winning his third consecutive Woody’s Challenge.

With no on-track activity on Friday, the attention turns to the Guinness World Records snowmobile parade attempt, which is slated to begin at the I-500 track at 3:30 p.m. The Miss I-500 pageant is also set for 7 p.m. at Kewadin Casino.
