Game Postponements Bring Challenges to School Athletic Departments
MCBAIN – The recent weather of frigid temperatures and inches of snow has led to many high school game cancellations and postponements around northern Michigan, which has created a scheduling havoc for athletic administrations.
On top of coordinating with the teams and gym schedules, athletic directors have had issues with an extra hurdle to rescheduling games in recent years.
“The hard part is, and this has kind of developed over the last few years, is the shortage of officials,” McBain NMC Athletic Director Dave Skinner said. “And so that adds to the problem, is not only do we have to find a date that each school is available, now we have to find a date that we think we’re going to have officials.”
The MHSAA confirmed to 9 and 10 News on Wednesday that high school postseason tournaments will not be affected by the postponed and cancelled games. High school wrestling districts start on Wednesday, Feb. 6.
