Kingsley Building Off Postseason Run

KINGSLEY – The 2017-2018 season was a historic one for the Kingsley girls basketball team.

Their semifinal appearance was only their second ever in program history, with the first coming 10 years prior.

Now in the 2018-2019 season, they have only dropped one game and are ranked second in Division 2. They also sit at the top of the Northwest Conference and are ready for whatever comes their way this year.

“Yeah I mean I think everyone believes its a possibility right now, I mean it’s a great group of kids and we’re probably way ahead of where we were last year at this time. This group of kids, doesn’t have to, we don’t have to talk about energy, enthusiasm, being coachable, we don’t spend any time talking about that stuff, they bring it every day,” said head coach Matt Schelich.

There’s high expectations for their team but they welcome the pressure.

“It’s definitely an expectation, we’re all kind of pumped and ready for tournament play and seeing what kind of teams we’re going to face. We’re definitely ready to go and maybe face Detroit Country Day again, I know we prepare, we do a lot of different things in practice that works were we fell short on the final game were we lost so we’re rounding ourselves out and getting better on things that we didn’t really know we needed to get better from last year,” said Molly Caminata, a senior on the team.

With a squad of four seniors and eight juniors, the key for them is chemistry.

“I think they season’s been going great. We have a great group of girls. I don’t think I’ve been on a team yet that has such good chemistry, everyone gets along, everyone cheers everyone on, its amazing,” said Kingsley senior Marie Pierson.

Next up for the Stags is a conference showdown against Division 3 No. 9 Glen Lake on Thursday.
