Ferris State Men Fall at Home to No. 15 Ashland

BIG RAPIDS – Ferris State suffered its second straight GLIAC loss with a 67-56 loss on No. 15 Ashland at Jim Wink Arena on Thursday.

Markese Mayfield was the lone Bulldog to reach double figures with a team-high 12 points, nine rebounds and two steals.

The Bulldogs (16-9, 8-6) trailed 41-33 at the half as Ashland swept the regular-season series.

“It’s hard to continue that effort when you don’t see any shots go in, you know that’s just human nature,” Ferris State coach Andy Bronkema said. “If a few more shots dropped through the net, and then you’re able to see our energy multiply so I was pretty happy with our team to just be resilient and to get those stops in the second half, and to try to say within striking distance.

“I thought we had the momentum when it was 50 to 47, we just really couldn’t get any buckets to go. Some of that credit goes to Ashland for the way they played defense and what they chose to take away but for me when I’m looking at our team, I just think we’ve got guys who will make those shots more often than not and I look forward to when they fall in the next game.”

Aaron Thompson led Ashland (19-3, 11-3) with a game-high 18 points as the Eagles placed four scorers in double figures.
