Great North Alpine Boys, Petoskey Girls Capture Regional Titles

HARBOR SPRINGS – Finn Husband took top honors in both the giant slalom and slalom in leading the Great North Alpine boys ski team to a MHSAA Division 2 regional championship at Nub’s Nob on Monday.

Great North Alpine won the event with 49 points, while eight-time defending state champion Petoskey finished second with 62. Harbor Springs rounded out the top three with 97.

On the girls side, Petoskey claimed the regional championship with 76 points, while Harbor Springs finished second with 103 and Great North Alpine came home in third with 111.

Gaylord junior Reagan Olli won the giant slalom while Harbor Springs junior Frannie Kelbel captured the slalom.

“The second course was definitely tricky,” Kelbel said. “It had a lot more swing to it, and a definite drop pitch. And so I think a lot of girls struggled with that. But having this as my home hill, it’s definitely an advantage for all of my team.”

The Division 2 state finals are set for Monday, Feb. 25 at Boyne Mountain.
