Clare’s Betts, Cheboygan’s Campbell Win D3 State Bowling Titles

MUSKEGON – Cheboygan’s Dawson Campbell and Clare’s Jenna Betts won individual state championships at the 2019 MHSAA Division 3 state finals at Muskegon’s Northway Lanes on Saturday.

Cheboygan’s Kyler Luttrell finished 11th in the boys final, while other finishers included Cheboygan’s Zach Gildner (21st), Gladwin’s Tanner Mielke (22nd), Sanford Meridian’s Kyle Nohel (24th), Boyne City’s Michael Deming (28th), Cheboygan’s Tyler Smith (31st), Ogemaw Heights’ C.J. Gillette (33rd) and Ludington’s Bryce Shangle (48th).

Oher finishers on the girls side of the Division 3 finals included Gladwin’s Bailey Weston (17th), Gladwin’s Kayla VanTiem (26th), Sanford Meridian’s Emma VanDongen (27th), Cheboygan’s Isabelle Barber (31st), Farwell’s Emma Tideswell (34th), Central Montcalm’s Makayla Phenix (35th), Cheboygan’s Morgan Jones (42nd), Cheboygan’s Sara Verville (48th) and Ludington’s Saige Phelps (57th).

At the Division 4 boys finals at Battle Creek’s M-66 Bowl, Baldwin’s Darrin Thomas fell in the quarterfinals while teammate Ryan Kolenbrander and Rogers City’s Tony Walker fell in the round of 16.

Other finishers included Lakeview’s Riley Devereaux (17th), Baldwin’s Jessie Pancio (19th), Rogers City’s Luke Augsburger (19th), Houghton Lake’s Luke Rieger (21st), Baldwin’s Demarko Williams (25th), Beaverton’s Drew Minkina (28th), Whittemore-Prescott’s Tyler Watkins (42nd), Lakeview’s Shane Esterline (46th) and Houghton Lake’s Zack Crawfis (49th).

On the girls side of the tournament, Charlton Heston Academy’s Samantha Jarosz and Traverse City Christian’s Savannah Bluemel fell in the semifinals while Roger’s Chandra Ganske and Chasta Ganske both fell in the round of 16. Coleman’s Bailey Ranck also finished 25th while Beaverton’s Hallie Brink was 30th and Lakeview’s Hallie Brink 34th.

At the Division 2 finals at Waterford’s Century Bowl, Cadillac’s Brandon Foster advanced to the semifinals while teammate Kyle Vermilyea fell in the quarterfinals.

Cadillac’s Tyler Campbell and Korbin Keller also finished 18th and 32nd while Mt. Pleasant’s Andre Leareaux came home in 44th.

On the girls side of the Division 2 finals, Cadillac’s Kaitlyn Vermilyea finished 44th.

In the Division 1 finals at Allen Park’s Thunderbowl Lanes, Traverse City Central’s Wyatt Beckstead finished 24th while Traverse City West’s Allie Decker and Noelle Phillips finished 33rd and 40th.
