Frankfort Rallies Past Crossroads in Thrilling OT Fashion
CADILLAC – Frankfort punched its first ticket to the state semifinals and the Breslin Center since 2014 with a thrilling 53-51 come-from-behind overtime win against Big Rapids Crossroads in a Class D quarterfinal Tuesday at Cadillac.
Trailing 43-41 with 0.1 seconds remaining in regulation, Frankfort’s Jack Stefanski took to the free throw line for two shots. After connecting on the first, Stefanski’s second free throw rimmed out, but he was awarded another shot after a lane violation was called on Crossroads. Stefanski made the most of this second change and sent the game into overtime tied at 43-43.
The Panthers carried a 14-4 lead to the second quarter but trailed 27-25 at the half and 37-28 after three.
Crossroads ends its historic campaign at 23-2. The Cougars captured the program’s first-ever regional championship this year and only their second conference title.
Frankfort will now face No. 5 Wyoming Tri-unity Christian in a state semifinal at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The Panthers have never appeared in a state final, while Tri-unity (22-3), which handed No. 2 Bellevue a 62-31 loss on Tuesday, has won four state championships and has four runner-up finishes to its credit.
