Gladwin Boys Win First Division 3 Bowling State Title

MUSKEGON – Gladwin captured its first MHSAA Division 3 team bowling state championship at Northway Lanes in Muskegon on Friday.

The Flying G’s defeated Ogemaw Heights in the championship match 1,229-1,152. The Falcons had finished ahead of the Flying G’s in the qualifying round for the top seed.

Gladwin defeated Belding (1,217-1,155) in the quarterfinals and Corunna (1,164-1,103) in the semifinals while Ogemaw Heights recorded wins over Caro (1,248-1,199) and Armada (1,327-1,123).

Cheboygan qualified fourth but fell to Armada (1,302-1,258) in the quarterfinals.

On the girls side, Cheboygan advanced to the semifinals via a win over Clare (1,132-1,026) before falling to eventual state champion Coloma (1,228-1,039). Central Montcalm dropped its quarterfinal match to Coloma (1,190-1,157), while Gladwin fell to eventual runner-up Birch Run (1,134-1,012) in the quarterfinals.

In Division 4 girls finals at Battle Creek’s M-66 Bowl, Rogers City fell to eventual state runner-up East Jackson in the semifinals, 1,014-964. The Hurons advanced to the semifinals with a 1,101-982 win over Traverse City Christian in the quarterfinals. Charlton Heston Academy came home in 13th.

On the boys side, Baldwin and Beaverton finished in 12th and 13th, respectively.

In the Division 2 boys finals at Waterford’s Century Bowl, Cadillac fell to eventual runner-up Tecumseh in the semifinals, losing 1,422-1,325. The Vikings advanced to the semifinals via a 1,311-1,123 win over Sturgis.
