Lakers Continue Postseason Against Minnesota State
SAULT STE. MARIE — The Lake Superior State men’s hockey team started the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Tournament last week with a sweep over Bemidji State at home.
The Lakers’ postseason gets tougher, starting Friday with a 3-game series at Minnesota State.
The Mavericks are ranked second in the nation. They also played well against the Lakers during the regular season, winning three out of four matchups.
“I mean they’re a great team. I think they’re number two in the country right now,” LSSU hockey coach Damon Whitten said. “They deserve to be there. They’re very good. It’s going to be a difficult task and challenge. We really like this team. We’re going to go down there to try to win hockey games and keep this season moving forward.”
Lake Superior State’s lone victory against Minnesota State came on the road on Feb. 19 with a 1-0 win. The Lakers have performed well on the road, holding a 12-4 away record compared to their 9-7-2 record in Sault Ste. Marie.
“We’ve been great on the road. I think probably the best road record in the country,” “That’s positive when you can go on the road and play well and perform well.”
The Lakers’ start the postseason Friday at Minnesota State at 8:07 p.m.
