CMU Hosts Annual Gus Macker Tournament

MOUNT PLEASANT – Hundreds of basketball fans and players gathered on the campus of Central Michigan University for the annual Gus Macker tournament.

The tournament is organized and planned by CMU students as part of a class at the university.

One of the tournament’s founderS, Scott McNeal is a Central Michigan alum.

Close to 200 teams are competing across the various age and gender divisions in this year’s tournament. The three-on-three tournaments played out in parking lots Franklin street and inside Finch Fieldhouse.

“This is the first outdoor event of 2019, and 40+ events across the country,” said co-organizer and CMU professor, Tim Otteman. “The start of the tour always starts at CMU. It’s really cool to watch an old historic building like Finch Fieldhouse come alive. And I think the students really appreciate at the end to go ‘Wow! We really did that.”

The Gus Macker donated $10,000 to the university for organizing this year’s event.
