Lake City’s Ardis Caps off Historic Career with Jersey Retirement

LAKE CITY – After a historic season, the Lake City girls basketball team had to honor one of their leaders and their only senior, Makayla Ardis.

Ardis lead the team to two district championships, a regional title and a state semifinal appearance, along with racking up 1,328 total points, 107 3-pointers in her 109 games she played.

“Makayla had four wonderful years here, each year progressing,” said head coach Bill Tisron. “She kind of set the tone for what Lake City basketball is now. The way she led on and off the court set an example for the younger girls. I just thought it was the right way to be able to hold up her accomplishments for a long, long time that way, years from now we can still remember that No. 12 was something special.”

Coach Tisron surprised Ardis at their team banquet with her jersey retirement.

“Well I did not know it till the banquet and I was shocked when he brought it out, and it means a lot to me,” said Ardis. “I’m still speechless about it I can’t believe it happened.”

The Trojans ended the 2018-2019 season with a record of 22-3, making their first state semifinal appearance since 1976.
