Cheboygan’s Maybank Reflects on Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals
CHEBOYGAN – In 2018, PJ Maybank III had a dream come true taking home the title in Boys 12-13 group in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club.
This year, he went back to defend his title.
Even though Maybank did not win overall back in April, he did take first in the driving portion of the event. He tied for third overall.
But the experience is what matters most to him.
“It’s unreal any time you’re there, just to be at Augusta National, you don’t really realize it when you’re there, you have to take it all in, it’s amazing,” said Maybank. “When I was there when I was 9, I didn’t really understand the history of it that much because I was so young, but now that I’m a little older and understand the history, it’s a lot more fun being there now.”
Now that he is back in Michigan, he’ll be playing in tournaments around the state and the Midwest.
Maybank still has another two years that he can qualify for the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals.
