Hart Girls Track and Field Preps for Title Defense
HART – In 2018, the Hart girls track and field team took home their first ever state title, sharing the MHSAA Division 3 trophy with St. Charles.
Now in 2019, it’s a new season with a new team.
“We have a great team, the leaders are stepping up,” said head coach Mindy Whitney. “It’s been real nice. They get along great, and they work together. I mean they’re encouraging each other at the practices and the meets so it’s just been great that way because they see what the leadership and what they need to step into.”
The Pirates graduated some key girls and the smaller senior class has some big shoes to fill, but they’re confident.
“We’re hoping to make a strong return and hopefully be champions again this year,” said senior Adelyn Ackley. “But we’ll see what happens. We’re off to a good start.”
They’ve been pushing each other to get back to the same spot as last year.
“I think just really encourage them and motivate them, you know like our workouts they get pretty hard but we just gotta stick together and do it as a team,” said senior Landry Tate.
Hart’s next meet is the Shepherd Bluejay Invite on Friday, May 3.
