Local Softball Players Representing Michigan

GAYLORD – For the Sandlot Slammers out of Gaylord, softball is a way of life.

Last year, Jayden Jones and Alexis Kozlowski got their chance to showcase their skills at tryouts for their region for the All-American team for USA Softball.

Now this year, two more of their teammates got selected for the team too.

On June 8, Leah Simetz and Alexis Shepherd will also be representing Michigan at the games and play with girls from around the region on the USA 12U Region 6 All-American team.

“Just to be in a high energy situation the whole time, with good competition. And it’s harder to find the best competition, and the best competition is where I’m going,” said Simetz.

“I can’t believe I made it. I’m so excited to play in Oklahoma City,” added Shepherd.

The games take place at the Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma, which is where the College World Series is held.

This encourages the girls to keep working hard, giving them an up-close example of what you can do through softball.

“It’s a really great opportunity,” said assistant coach, Rob Simetz. Simetz will also be an assistant coach for the Great Lakes Region team. “We learned about it through Coach Jones. So they were very encouraging of the girls this year to go and try out and just a great opportunity, just kind of teaches the girls of all the opportunities that are out there to go and experience.”

The games are from June 8-10. For more information, you can visit USA Softball’s Facebook page or the Sandlot Slammers page.
