Lilleboe Takes Over Lead at 102nd Michigan Open Championship

ACME – Eric Lilleboe of Okemos fired a 7-under 65 to take over the top spot at the 102nd Michigan Open Championship after the third round at The Bear at Grand Traverse Resort and Spa on Wednesday.

Lilleboe entered Wednesday’s third round at 6-under and is five strokes ahead of 2012 Michigan Open champion Barrett Kelpin in second place. Michael Nagy and Willie Mack III are tied for third at 5-under.

That was not easy out there,” Lilleboe said. “It feels good to put together a round through those conditions. I don’t know. I mean really a lot of it was luck. I made a couple 30-footers for par. I’ve played in these since I was in college. It would mean everything. I mean it’s the state open. I grew up born and raised in Michigan. It would mean a lot.”

Blaze Hogan of Big Rapids carded a 3-under 69 in the third round to tie for ninth at 1-under.

Traverse City’s Randall Hutchison shot a 1-under 71 on Wednesday and is tied in 19th at 1-over. Fellow Traverse City resident and current Ferris State golfer Thomas Hursey fell back to a tie for 22nd after shooting a 2-over 74 on Wednesday.

The fourth and final round tees off at 8 a.m. Thursday.
