Local Talent Represented at 34th Annual UP All-Star Basketball Classic

NEWBERRY – The 34th Annual UP All-Star Basketball Classic was held on Saturday in Newberry.

Many local seniors came out to play in the game, while it will be the last time these players wear their high school jerseys.

The teams were broken up into the north and south.

On the boys side, Engadine’s Andrew Blanchard played for South, while Brimley’s Marcus Harris and Tristan Lyons were on the North.

For the girls, St. Ignace’s Emily Coveyou, Rudyard’s Cierra Molina, Sault Ste. Marie’s Ashyton Bell, and Newberry’s Adrian Depew represented the eastern U.P.

“It’s really an honor and it’s a lot better than the regular season going against them,” said Depew. “Luckily I had Emily on my team. Still had to go against these two ballers, but it was a lot of fun.”

Coveyou had a game high of 24 points, but the MVP went to Marquette’s Sydney Kivi who had 23 points.

The North teams dominated today, with the boys winning 107-93 and the girls 72-48.
