No. 1 Coleman Shuts Out Holton, Reaches Semis for Third Straight Year

HOLLAND – Jaden Berthume struck out 11 and No. 1 Coleman cruised to a 10-0 win over No. 7 Holton in a MHSAA Division 4 state quarterfinal on Tuesday at Hope College.

The Comets (25-7) held a 5-0 lead through three innings and led 8-0 after four of Tuesday’s quarterfinal and recorded 15 hits en route to securing their third straight state semifinal berth.

Berthume allowed just two hits and did not allow a runner to reach second base.

Coleman, which finished runner-up a season ago and is seeking its first state championship 2005, will face No. 2 Kalamazoo Christian in a semifinal at 10 a.m. Friday at Michigan State. Kalamazoo Christian handed Hudson an 11-1 loss on Tuesday and posted state runner-up finishes in 2014 and 2015 as well as winning the Division 4 title in 2013.
