Pit Spitters Cruise to Win Over Jackrabbits
TRAVERSE CITY – The Pit Spitters held off a Kokomo comeback on Wednesday to win, 10-5, and move within a game of first place in the Great Lakes East Division of the Northwoods League.
The Pit Spitters jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning, with Michael Slaten, Evan Maday and Jake Wilson all driving in runs.
Traverse City built a 4-0 entering the fifth, but Kokomo scored three runs that inning to pull within one. However, the Pit Spitters continued to perform well at the plate, scoring six of their runs in their final three innings.
Slaten had a solid night, going 2-for-2 with 2 RBI and one run scored. He also walked three times. He’s hitting .366 on the season. Chris Faust also had 2 RBI.
Traverse City begins a two-game road series with the Battle Creek Bombers on Thursday. The Pit Spitters lead the season series at 2-0.
