Pit Spitters Fall to Division-Leading Kokomo
TRAVERSE CITY – The Traverse City Pit Spitters fell two games behind the division-leading Kokomo Jackrabbits with a 6-1 loss to Kokomo at Pit Spitters Park on Tuesday.
The Jackrabbits broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the fourth on Chris Hacker’s RBI single. Kokomo would push three more insurance runs across the plate in the fifth and added a single run in the seventh.
Evan Gates took the loss for the Pit Spitters (11-12) after surrendering five runs (four earned) on six hits while striking out five and issuing two walks in 4 1/3 innings.
Andrew Morrow went 1-for-3 for Traverse City and drove in the team’s only run in the first inning.
Logan Jarvis and Jeff Timko both went 2-for-4 on the night, scoring two runs apiece to lead Kokomo at the plate while Austin Elder went 2-for-5 and drove in three runs.
Owen Callaghan earned the win for the Jackrabbits (13-10), allowing the one earned run on two hits while striking out seven over six innings.
Two-time All-Star and 1984 World Series champion Darrell Evans made an appearance at Tuesday’s game. Evans, who was the 1985 American League home run leader, met with fans and signed autographs prior to the game.
The teams conclude their two-game series in Traverse City at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday.
