Pit Spitters Sweep Bombers for Seventh Straight Win
TRAVERSE CITY – Michael Slaten drove in five runs and the Traverse City Pit Spitters won for the seventh straight outing with a 14-4 victory over the Battle Creek Bombers at Pit Spitters Park on Friday.
The Pit Spitters (19-13) trailed 3-0 through 3 1/2 innings before plating a pair of runs in the fourth and a trio in the fifth to take a 5-3 lead.
Traverse City put the game out of reach with a nine-run seventh as the Pit Spitters tallied 12 hits on the evening. The Pit Spitters swept the two-game series by outscoring the Bombers 26-8.
Austin Shea collected the win, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out two over five innings.
Slaten led Traverse City at the plate, going 2-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored while Jake Wilson was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run. Hudson Byorick also went 1-for-3 with an RBI and three runs.
Amani Godfrey was saddled with the loss after allowing five runs on four hits and five walks over four innings of work.
Traverse City begins a two-game home series with the Kenosha Kingfish at 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
