Seven Area Gridders to Play in MHSFCA East vs. West All-Star Game

UNIVERSITY CENTER – The Michigan High School Football Coaches Association East vs. West All-Star Game is Saturday at Saginaw Valley State, and seven northern Michigan seniors are set to suit up for the West squad.

Artie Dutmers (Traverse City St. Francis), Bruin French (Clare), James Miller (Gaylord), Drew Peterson (Glen Lake), Anthony Pelton (Reed City), Kevin Davis (Mt. Pleasant) and Brenden Sersaw (Clare) are all taking part in the 37th annual event.

“It’s an honor to play with all these great athletes and all these football players out here,” Sersaw said. “There’s not many chances you get to play with a bunch of high school football players that are the top in the state. It’s an honor to play with all of them.”

Defensive back and Butler commit Artie Dutmers is exited for the opportunity to represent St. Francis and northern Michigan.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to represent my school and northern Michigan as a whole,” Dutmers said. “It’s a great experience too cause I meant a lot of guys that hopefully I’ll be friends with for the rest of my life and it’s just been fun so far.”

“It was a great opportunity to compete with some of the top talent in the state,” French added. “Being in the dorm room every night is really fun, and you get a couple of hours of free time every day. It’s been a blast.”

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Saturday at SVSU’s Harvey Randall Wickes Memorial Stadium.
