Smalley Takes Over Gladwin Girls Basketball Program

GLADWIN – The Gladwin girls basketball team has a new head coach, and it’s a familiar face for many in the program.

Jerome Smalley, a teacher in the school district and the school’s boys and girls varsity soccer coach, is set to take over and inherits a team that went 14-7 in 2018-19 and finished in third place of the Jack Pine Conference with a 10-4 mark.

“I’ve taught for 30 years and I’ve always coached at least two sports,” Smalley said. “It’ll work out, just something I do and I think it’ll be okay. It’s more just a new face for me and for them and I think it’ll be fun. I’m looking forward to it.”

The Flying G’s are set to open their season at home against Clare on Friday, Dec. 6.
