Former Oakland Star Bader Returns to TC West for Youth Camp

TRAVERSE CITY – For the second straight year, former Oakland University men’s basketball star and current Greek Basket League player Travis Bader is conducting a youth camp at Traverse City West.

Bader, who has played parts of his professional career in NBA G League and with teams in France, Greece, Lithuania and Italy, broke former Duke guard and current New Orleans Pelican J.J. Redick’s NCAA Division I career 3-point record with 504 made 3-pointers during his four-year career (2010-14) with the Golden Grizzlies. Bader’s record was eclipsed during the 2018-19 season by Wofford’s Fletcher Magee with 509.

Now in its second year, Bader’s camp has seen a significant increase in attendance this summer.

“You never know what each kid is picking up on. So, one thing you say, could affect how he thinks about the game, how he thinks about certain things, and takes them to a different direction,” Bader said. “I always tell them, camps are like a tryout in the summer right now. You’re trying to show what you’ve got, and then you’re trying to improve on what you can do already. So, it’s an honor for me to be here, for Coach (Sanders) Frye to kind of invite us back.”

Bader’s camp wraps up Friday at West.
